Lykke Li

Lykke Li ("Lick-ee Lee") is a 24 year old singer-songwriter hailing from Sweden. Her songs speak of love and of growing up, reflected in the titles of her albums: Youth Novels and her sophomore album released earlier this year, Wounded Rhymes. A couple of years ago I heard her song "Little Bit" and fell in love with the creativity of her songwriting and the uniqueness of her voice. Her music is a mix of pop, indie rock, and electronic, but there are elements of her sound that make it difficult to classify into any one genre.

I saw her front and center at Lollapalooza this past summer and she blew me away. She's just as lively and crazy on stage as you could imagine by listening to her music.

Here are a couple photos I took at the show:

Check out this video of an acoustic version of her song "Youth Knows No Pain".

Lykke Li has come a long way since 2008 and even made it as far as the moon. Yup, you read correctly:

Metric - Eclipse

I have had this song on repeat for days, finding it very fitting to the place I am at in my life right now. The original is an amazing track but nothing compares to the the rawness and emotion of the acoustic version.

From one of my favorite bands (I'll probably be posting more Metric in the future) comes one of my favorite songs written for a movie soundtrack:

Metric - Eclipse [All Yours] (Acoustic) by elmoudy

I also love the beginning of the song's official music video.

Okay okay so just because this song was written for the 3rd movie of the Twilight series does not degrade its excellence.

Yuna

A very talented artist out of Malaysia, Yuna's soft vocals and delicate lyrics are the type to get stuck in your head for days.

Here is her most recent single "Come As You Are"

As a barista the title of her single "Coffee" caught my attention but all the songs off her Ep "Decorate" are well worth a listen... my current favorite? Someone Out of Town

Bon Iver

By far one of my favorite bands, Bon Iver never ceases to amaze me. The band's most recent self-titled album captivates me now in the same way it did at first listen.
Because of this, and this gloomy day in East Lansing, a Bon Iver post just feels right.

Sometimes I feel just like the kid in this video...

So, I have been diggin' this song since it hit other music blogs months back but after seeing the most recent Victoria's Secret commercial, I can no longer think of it without thinking of lingerie and feathered wings. Thanks Vikki's.
